More Than a Fad Thrift Store Launching This Summer!

May 30, 2020

Adeara Recovery Centre is delighted to announce it will be taking Treats n’ Treasures Thrift Store into its care early this summer and will relaunch the store as ‘More Than a Fad’ Thrift Store. Effective July 1st 2020, ownership of the currently operating thrift store will transition to Adeara from Shepherd’s Care Foundation.

Shepherd’s Care Foundation is a faith-based, not-for-profit organization providing quality care and accommodations to more than 1,800 seniors throughout Edmonton and Barrhead. Treats n’ Treasures, located at 6924-68 Avenue in Edmonton, is a social enterprise owned and operated by Shepherd’s Care Foundation with all proceeds going to support the lives of seniors living in Shepherd’s Care facilities.

In Spring 2020, Shepherd’s Care approached Adeara to carry on the legacy of the store. This transition was undertaken as the best direction for the success of the store and was not determined by events of the COVID-19 pandemic. The team at Adeara is excited to pour new energy into the unique opportunity and eagerly anticipates the July transition.

“I am full of excitement and hopeful thinking of the possibilities and new opportunities the Thrift Store will have under the ownership of Adeara Recovery Centre,” says Shawn Terlson, President and CEO of Shepherd’s Care Foundation. “As we make these transitions, I encourage you to continue supporting the Thrift Store in its new initiatives.”

Though there will naturally be some changes to the store, regular customers of Treats n’ Treasures can rest assured that the store will carry on with its mission of supporting Edmonton’s vulnerable populations. Proceeds from More Than a Fad will directly support the operating costs of providing addiction recovery programming to women with their children at Adeara. As a faith-based non-profit, Adeara has always relied on the private donations of our generous donors to keep its doors open. This thrift store is an opportunity for Adeara to build a separate, reliable stream of funding that will support its programming year-round. There are also plans for the store to eventually host a retail readiness program for women preparing to transition out of Adeara!

“Adeara would like to thank Shepherd’s Care Foundation for the exciting opportunity to expand our community support and provide new opportunities for our residents!” says Lori Patrick, Executive Director of Adeara. “Treats n’ Treasures was created to support Shepherd’s Care residents and their community, and now they are giving Adeara the opportunity to do the same.”

You can support Adeara during this time of transition by dropping off quality donations to the store after July 1st, shopping at More Than a Fad after the transition, and providing financial support for the transition. If you would like to learn more about how you can support the store, please get in touch.

We are excited to start this new chapter with your support!
