Our Impact
We’re changing how women and their families heal from addiction. Did you know, in Alberta it was reported that every dollar invested into prevention can save $12 in future economic costs of substance abuse (2020)? In the United States, it’s calculated that every dollar invested into addiction treatment programs can yield $4 to $7 in reduced costs, incurred by drug-related crimes, criminal justice costs and theft (2018).
Adeara’s long-term programming is built to end the cycle of addiction, not just for one woman, but for her children and their future children. By providing accredited addiction programming in a residential, community setting, Adeara provides a woman the opportunity to step out of her rhythm of drug abuse, drug-related crime and trauma.
Rebuilding even one woman’s life can break this destructive cycle for her family, or extended network of friends, and create a lasting positive impact felt across our Alberta community.

State of Addiction in Alberta
In 2020, Alberta saw a stark increase in opioid-related deaths. For the past few years, the number of fentanyl-related deaths has been steadily rising. In 2020, 94 per cent of all opioid-poisoning deaths were linked to fentanyl.
The addiction pandemic is costing lives and it’s costing each of us dollars too. In 2017, the cost of substance abuse in Canada was estimated to be $46 billion (ie. $1,258 for every Canadian). That’s the associated cost of addiction, such as: lost productivity, the cost to healthcare, criminal justice, theft, damage and more. In 2014, the cost of alcohol-related harm alone to Canadians was estimated to be $14.6 billion.
The statistics don’t end there. The need is great.
By contributing just $30 per month, you can help save our province save $120 to $360 in substance abuse related costs.
