We're Making a Difference

Addiction is destructive. It leads to a person’s loss of control over drug use, compulsive behaviour, the decline of physical and mental health, social isolation, loss of hope, and risk of overdose and death. But together, we’re making a difference.

Check out how your donations are making a ripple effect in our community right now, as of our most recent annual report (2023-2024).

Helping Women in Severe Circumstances

Adeara is an intensive program designed to support women with severe, long-standing substance use issues which have caused significant impairment in their lives. Our applicants are often in highly unstable situations, experiencing homelessness, abusive relationships, active substance use, criminal charges, and/or Child and Family Services involvement. This year, applicants came to Adeara from the following situations:

  • 6 women from living with friends and/or family
  • 7 women from drug and alcohol detoxification
  • 6 women from another treatment program or supportive housing program
  • 1 woman came upon release from incarceration

Thanks to you, we were able to offer these women a safe home, a new daily structure, and help from professionals to help them begin to address their addiction.

People Served This Year

In the fiscal year of 2023-24, we served 26 women through our addiction program, housed 15 children, supported 15 women through continued care, served 30 workers through our work experience program, and engaged 140 volunteers. We firmly believe that for every life we serve, a ripple effect spreads across the community. That’s an incredible impact, thanks to your generous support!

Making Recovery Accessible

When both short and long-term private recovery programs accepting women with children can cost hundreds of dollars a day, women are left with few options.

Through the support of our generous donors, the cost of our programming is almost completely covered for clients and their children. Depending on their ability to work, number of children, and subsidies available, residents may pay nothing to roughly pay the monthly cost of a cheap, unfurnished suite rental in Edmonton. This “cost” includes not only a fully furnished suite, but our whole addiction recovery program, weekly professional counselling, and additional supports.

Your support has made a difference for women like Samantha, who has been reunited with her 4 children after spending 2 years in Adeara’s program.

Change Through Community

Behind those working directly with our clients is a larger community—praying, giving, and volunteering to support women building new lives. They stand with us, believing every woman deserves love, dignity, and respect. We are deeply grateful to our donors, partners, sponsors, and the special communities listed below.

Monthly Donors

Our generous community of monthly donors is a lifeline to our work and a true encouragement to our team. Their steady support ensures our clients receive the best care possible. Thank you to the 24 individuals who joined our 100+ monthly donors this year—we are so grateful for you!

Prayer Team

Each month, Adeara shares an email with prayer requests from our residents and staff. We are deeply grateful for the individuals who take time to pray for these needs. Thank you to everyone who lifts us up in prayer—it truly makes a difference. Join our prayer team by filling out the form below.

Volunteers

Our volunteers are the heart of Adeara and More Than a Fad. This year, 92 volunteers contributed 992 hours by leading classes, devotions, serving on our board, and supporting events. At More Than a Fad, over 50 volunteers gave 7,921 hours to sorting, pricing, cleaning, and merchandising. Thank you!
