Coldest Night of the Year COVID-19 Update

January 22, 2021

Earlier this month, we announced we are participating in Coldest Night of the Year. It’s only been a few weeks since we began our fundraising campaign, but we have already hit our goal of 23 teams! Now, we’re bumping up our goal to 30 teams, and we’re asking you to join us.

This is Adeara’s first year participating in the Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY). CNOY is a Canada-wide event where charities across Canada fundraise together to support their programs addressing homelessness, hurt and hunger.

“Our team knows that many of the women who come through Adeara’s doors have experienced homelessness alongside addiction. Tragically, the two often operate hand in hand. Establishing a strong path to recovery might also mean a woman might never experience homelessness again.” (Previous blog post)

This year, we’d like to see our Adeara community—families, friends, classrooms, coworkers and small groups—come together and walk in solidarity for women who have experienced homelessness, hurt and hunger through addiction. This February 20th, we walk to see women SET FREE from addiction!

COVID-19 Update

We also have an important COVID-19 update! We have switched the event to virtual-only. What does that mean? Instead of having all teams walk the same route in Edmonton, we are asking all walkers to choose their own 2K or 5K routes on February 20th. Right now (on January 22nd, 2021), Alberta restrictions allow groups of 10 or less to gather outdoors in a socially distanced setting. As a group, you can do the walk one of two ways:

  • Walk as a group (under 10 people) in your neighbourhood, in the River Valley, or anywhere else outdoors! Wear a mask and socially distance as you walk, and enjoy the community as you walk in the cold together.
  • Walk individually–each team member can choose their own walking location, whether that be around the block, to the nearest Starbucks, or on a treadmill in the basement.

We want to reassure you that the Coldest Night of the Year will not be cancelled amidst the changing COVID-19 restrictions. We are looking to ensure that in any COVID situation, the walk will be safe and fun for all who participate. Thank you so much for your support, and happy fundraising!!
