Meet Our New Board Members
November 28, 2024
Adeara is governed by a group of dedicated individuals who guide and oversee our organization. Our board ensures we stay true to our mission of empowering and equipping women to live in sustainable recovery. Join us as we honour those who have completed their terms and welcome new faces to the board.
Leaving the Board
We are so thankful for the time and effort David Cornock (Vice Chair) has dedicated to Adeara Recovery Centre over the past six years. He has made a remarkable impact on our centre and thrift store, and in turn, the women who receive our care. We pray for God’s blessing as David moves forward to other areas of opportunity where he can put his skills and passion to use.
Board Updates
We are excited to share some updates to the board and welcome four new members who have joined us this year!
Shauna Yohemas is grateful to be able to serve as Board Chair at Adeara. A board member since 2020, Shauna values the transformative impact Adeara has on women, their families, and the community. She has worked for several years in human resources and organizational development roles, holds a master’s degree in leadership and is the Vice President of People, Culture & Equity at NorQuest College. She is a wife and a mom to four great kids, ages 8 to 21, who keep her busy and entertained. Shauna chooses to serve Adeara because she has witnessed the heartbreak addiction can bring. She strongly believes in the effectiveness of the approach taken to support recovery at Adeara, and the critical work the organization does to help women achieve freedom from addiction through Christ. She feels blessed to support Adeara and the courageous women in its program as a member of the board.
Andrew Lee is Adeara’s Vice Chair. Andrew has been involved with Adeara for a number of years, contributing his expertise and passion for helping others in his community. He is the president of Aspire Investments & Insurance Ltd., a financial planning firm based in Edmonton. With extensive experience in financial services, Andrew holds the designations of Certified Financial Planner and Chartered Life Underwriter. Outside of work, Andrew enjoys spending time with his wife Jenn and their three young sons. He also loves sports and loves exploring the outdoors with his family.
Maureen Small is excited to serve Adeara as the Secretary of the Board, elected at the 2024 AGM after several years as a society member. She is passionate about seeing people flourish when they choose to find their identity in who God created them to be and loves that Adeara is passionate about that also. Maureen has a bachelor’s degree in theology and is grateful for the opportunities she is given to preach at the church where she is employed as an office administrator. Her husband of 36 years, Andy, is her favourite person to hang out with, especially when they’re camping or cruising. They have two grown children and a daughter-in-law. Maureen enjoys her little dog, chocolate, coffee, learning Spanish, little kids, and shopping – not necessarily in that order!
Charlene Nanninga is no stranger to Adeara and More Than a Fad. Prior to joining Adeara’s Board of Directors in 2024, Charlene was the leader in pioneering Adeara’s social enterprise, More Than a Fad Thrift Store, back in 2020. With her deep commitment to helping those in need and genuine desire to make a difference, Charlene plans to use her business experience and strategic leadership to assist Adeara in advancing its vision in this next season of growth and impact.
Danny Allen is honoured to serve Adeara through the role as a Board Director, newly joined in September 2024. Danny is a husband and father of three, and a proud Edmontonian, with a continued personal mission to support holistic wellbeing for the upcoming generations of this city. Danny has had the privilege to focus his career as a leader in the nonprofit sector. Currently, at Terra Centre for Teen Parents, Danny is the Director, Program Development and Delivery for all participant programs. Interesting fact: after an intentional decision in 2019 to read and listen to more books, he has finished 196 books… with no plans to stop! Danny chooses to serve Adeara to empower both the wonderful organization and the courageous individuals it serves and to thrive in their identity and potential.
Jesse Jervis is a devoted member of Adeara’s board, inspired by the profound transformations the organization has enabled. Since 2012, Jesse has been actively involved in various roles on the board, and served as Board Chair for the last two years. Outside of his work with Adeara, he is passionate about helping business owners harness technology for growth rather than frustration. His family is actively involved, supporting him both at Adeara and in business with SureFire IT Solutions. Jesse lives in Beaumont with his wife, Lisa, and their two sons. He is eager to see Adeara expand its outreach, bringing the love of Christ to those who need it most as they navigate their struggles.
